Jake really loves to snuggle everything, both while he's awake and when he's sleeping. This could be his burp cloth, his lamb blanket, or the clean diaper you're about to put on him. It is absolutely adorable!

Jibber Jabber
While we haven't yet been able to capture Jake's cute baby-ish squeaks and squeals on video, Beth was able to get this clip of him talking away to his mobile. The key appears to be not letting him see the camera - he must be camera shy! He has become quite the talker lately, and gets more excited with his mobile than with anything else we can offer. It seems like when he's getting tired of playing with other toys (or us) he still loves to get in his crib and watch the mobile go. Just drawing his attention to it seems to cure virtually any level of fussiness, which thankfully doesn't happen very often.
Exersaucer Fun
Jake just loves his exersaucer. He is getting better every day at standing and reaching for the toys. He is such a happy little man!
Loving life:)
Watch out Mr. Monkey, here I come!
I think he's trying to look intimidating:)
Trying to lick the toy- everything goes in his mouth these days!
Happy Anniversary!
We celebrated 4 years of marriage last Wednesday, July 22nd. We have made God the center of our marriage, and we are truly blessed! I didn't think it could be possible, but each year is better than the one before. We are best friends and continually strive to learn how to love one another better. We look forward to a lifetime of memories!
We were able to go out for dinner at a Thai/Japanese restaurant... it was delicious! Jake stayed at home with his first babysitter, our friend Karissa (aka Dr. King). Thanks for watching Jake, Karissa! We really enjoyed our time together on our anniversary.

All Tuckered Out
Jake obviously played too hard at the pool today... he was asleep before we even made it home. And that's not very far! We can see the pool from our doorstep. Here he is still wrapped up in his hooded towel asleep on his handmade quilt (thanks, Anita) on the floor.
Too sweet!

Three months!
Today Jake is officially three months old... how time flies! Jacob loves smiling and laughing and is a very happy baby. He loves to stand and just started using his exersaucer. He can be starting to get fussy and all you have to do is stand him up and he gets happy right away. His legs are so strong! He has also started to really want to hold things and put them in his mouth, namely his burp cloth. We started giving him his little lamb blanket and he enjoys snuggling that. He loves to play and is sleeping really well through the night, usually 10-11 hours! We love being parents and enjoy each day... he's growing too fast!

Birthday Fun
Saturday was my birthday and my boys decided to surprise me with a trip to Charleston. We went down Friday night and then spent Saturday at the aquarium and walking around downtown Charleston. We had a good seafood dinner and then headed home. It was a wonderful trip and Jake gave me the sweetest present... he rolled over for the first time on my birthday! We'll definitely be able to remember the date of that milestone.

Visit from Nana
Nana was able to come for a short visit last week. Since she was already halfway here (in Knoxville with my sister Melanie and her new baby Anna), she decided to come see Jake. She had not seen him since he was born so he definitely looked different. I think he seemed even bigger to her because she had just come from holding Anna who was about seven pounds!
Ready for an outing!

Recent photos
Just thought we'd share a few recent cute pictures of our rapidly growing little guy.
Grammy sent this cute shark hooded towel with Jacob's name on it.
He and Mommy snuggled up in it after a good swim.
Daddy is very proud to raise a Cardinal fan. We're going to have to be careful with red shirts and red hair though...
Jake is getting more and more mobile as well. Here he is when we found him one morning scooted all the way to the end of his crib and turned sideways. He's getting pretty good at rolling up on one side now, so we'll be expecting to find him on his belly soon!
Jacob looks more and more like a boy than a baby when he gets dressed up. He actually really likes being on his changing table - he can be squirmy and headed to being upset then will just stop and start smiling and cooing. That definitely makes diaper changes more pleasant!

Welcome, Anna!
Jacob has a new cousin! My sister Melanie had her little girl today. Anna Mae was born at 5:17pm. She weighed 7lbs 8oz. and was 20 inches long. Everyone is doing well! Congrats, Melanie and Brad, she is adorable! We can't wait to meet her!

Visit from Grammy and Grandpa
This past weekend Mark's parents were able to come and visit; it was the first time Mark's dad had seen Jake since he was born. Needless to say, he was quite impressed by how much he's grown. Jake loved hearing his grandpa talk to him... he would smile and laugh at Grandpa! It was precious. We enjoyed their visit, making a trip to Park Seed Company for the annual Festival of Flowers- it was beautiful. Even though we went early in the morning, it was very warm so we only stayed a little over an hour. On Sunday we enjoyed a visit from Grammy's cousin Jan from Augusta; Mark and I hadn't seen her since his cousin's wedding five years ago! Thanks for making the trip, Jan... we know you really came to see Jake, not us:) Here are some pictures from the weekend.
Enjoying more pool time.

No Longer an Intern!
Today is Mark's first day as an upper-level resident... he is an intern no more! We survived the first year of residency and are still smiling. Being a second year resident means more time at home in the evenings as he goes from being on call seven times a month down to only two! The interns will now look to him for answers and support; it's amazing to see how much he has learned over the past year. He also now has the opportunity to moonlight to gain additional experience (and a little extra income). It seems like we just moved to Greenwood, but so much has happened over the past year... especially becoming parents! Through it all Mark has been a wonderful husband and father. Great job, Mark! I am so proud of you!
Congratulations, Mark!
I know that Mark is an outstanding physician who cares a great deal for his patients! He is kind and compassionate and really takes time to listen. Well, during all of the graduation festivities, Mark received the award for the most outstanding resident in OB/GYN (obstetrics and gynecology- aka women's health). Jake and I know firsthand that he is fantastic at delivering babies! He has even been jokingly referred to as a Spanish doula- he labored for two hours with a patient speaking only Spanish! I am so proud of him and know that as he continues to learn he will only become an even better physician. The Lord has definitely blessed him!
