winter wonderland

Well, we had a pleasant surprise yesterday afternoon. We actually received the snow that was forecast for us. It started late afternoon and was finished by around 10pm. All in all we got about 5 inches, which is pretty incredible for South Carolina. We would have been thrilled with this much back in Kentucky, but here it is even more exciting. Jake experienced his first snow in the state he was born! We definitely didn't expect that to happen!

The start of the snow around 3:45pm.

About an hour and a half later around 5pm.

Jake all bundled up in the snow last night.

Smiling for our neighbors, Judy and Eldon, who snapped this picture for us.

That's our car around 7pm.

Close up of the crepe myrtle- lots of snow!

The view from our door before we went to bed.

Snow-covered cars in the parking lot when we got up this morning around 7am.

The view from our door first thing this morning.

We went out to try and make a snowman at about 8am, but the snow was too powdery and wouldn't pack into balls. Maybe next time!

You can see sled paths behind Jake, but sadly we didn't have anything for him to ride on. The kids were using cardboard boxes and taking running starts to get going. We didn't think that was such a good idea for Jake...

The playground was covered- no sliding today for Jake:)

You can see how much snow there was on this picnic table.

I thought this was a comical picture- nothing like taking a swim with snow around the pool. Maybe if the pool was heated...

Taking a walk around the apartment complex and enoying how beautiful everything looked with snow on it.

Even the mailboxes looked picturesque!

Beautiful berries covered in snow.

Our neighbors' bird feeders.

I set Jake down on the concrete to snap the picture of the bird feeders, and the snow was too enticing for him to resist. He started crawling towards it immediately!

Jake HAD to touch the snow that had collected on top of her light.

By 11am the meltdown was in full swing. The roads were pretty much clear with just a little slush, but the grass and roofs still had snow. We'll see how much is left after a sunny afternoon with temperatures in the 40s! Snow is definitely short-lived in South Carolina.
