lake lure

The weekend before Mark left for Honduras was our annual residency retreat. The past two years we've been to Flat Rock, NC, but this year we stayed at Rumbling Bald Resort in Lake Lure, NC. Here's a little random tidbit about the resort- it's where Dirty Dancing was filmed. It was a great place, and we think it would be a lot of fun to go for a short trip in the summer when the lake gets warmer. There are all kinds of fun water activities to try:)

The weather was absolutely gorgeous, and we were able to go to South Mountains State Park and hike to High Shoals Falls on Saturday morning. Mark had a meeting in the afternoon, so the boys I went down to their beach, played in the sand, and threw rocks in the lake. It was glorious! Such a wonderful blessing for the residency program to send us away for two nights with all of our dear friends and cover all the shifts and responsibilities of the residents so all could go. We love Greenwood!

Family photo minus Sam.

Our friend Alan really wanted to try out the Ergo. He has seen me wear it a few times, and told me that the baby carrier is what he is most excited about when the time comes for them to have kids. I didn't want him to have to wait that long, so I offered to let him wear Sam on the hike. He was so excited! Alan wore him the entire time, and only relinquished Sam to let his wife try the Ergo out:)

Here's our family photo with the Alan and Lynsey since Alan has Sam:)

There were a lot of stairs on the way to the waterfall. Daddy was a trooper carrying Jake on his back up all those stairs. That's a good workout!

I tried the carrier out later in the hike. While it was very comfortable, and I could definitely wear it if need be, I was more than happy to pass Jake back to Daddy:) He's heavy!

There were lots of big boulders and rocks in the stream bed. Very cool.

Jake and Daddy in front of a neat waterfall. Jake really liked the waterfalls.

Pretty little waterfall.

Jake and Daddy.

At the end of the hike, everyone wanted to get their feet in the water. The water was frigid!

Despite the frigid water, Jake was determined to get his feet in, too. Sometimes you just have to let a boy figure it out for himself. He put his feet in and immediately yanked them out, saying the water was cold. Yet, he dipped them again...

Jake had a great time playing with the Patten boys on the beach.

Watching the boats at the dock. You can see the playground on the beach in the background.

We had karaoke one night, and Jake loved the microphone; he wouldn't put it down! Gerry and Jake were singing Elvis, I think.

Sam was content to be passed around to everyone. He is such a happy baby. They both were fantastic! We all slept in the same room, and we put them down together in the evenings. They slept great! It made me think that we could put them in the same room maybe by the end of the summer and have a playroom in the apartment. We'll see...
